A month of music and arts marking the centenary of the Russian Revolution
From Shostakovich symphonies to dark theatrical comedy, live film accompaniment to piano recitals and masterclasses, Russian October invites lovers of music and drama to come together to remember October 1917. Actor Timothy West, presenter Gerard McBurney, the superb Kuss Quartet and the region’s own St George’s Singers visit Chetham’s for intimate conversations, major performances, and voyages of discovery through the Russian concert hall, library and stage.
Russian Sho(r)ts: Arrive early to encounter dramatic minatures, performed by students of Manchester School of Theatre and capturing the mood and flavour of the revolution through poetry, theatrical scenes and powerful oratory.
