Residential House Assistant

Chetham’s School of Music is seeking a Residential House Assistant to join the internationally renowned specialist music school located in city centre Manchester.  Chetham’s is a magical place, home to the UK’s largest specialist music school, the oldest library in the English speaking world and a world-class concert venue all in the heart of Manchester.

The job

  • We are looking for a new House Assistant to join the boarding section of the pastoral team to assist with the day-to-day care and boarding routines of the students. The role will involve working with our senior students aged 14-18.
  • You will work 35 hours per week minimum, working day or evening shifts, including some work at the weekend.
  • The role is term-time only, plus one additional week for the Summer School, making a total of 37 working weeks per year.
  • The role is a residential role, and accommodation is available all year round.
  • The role will commence 1st January 2027, subject to clearance checks.

In return

  • The salary for this role is £19,209.20 (£26,966.72 FTE), starting at SCP 14 within the Scale Point 14–16 range.
  • Additional hours worked above 35 hours per week will be paid at £14.83 per hour.
  • In instances where the Duty Phone is assigned overnight, there is a £25 overnight fee that can be claimed
  • Benefits also include free catered meals during term time, on site gym, free tickets to selected concerts & Cycle to Work Scheme.

Maintenance – Joiner

Chetham’s School of Music is seeking a Maintenance Joiner with some workshop experience to join our Maintenance team to deliver an efficient and high-quality reactive and planned maintenance service to Chetham’s.

The job

  • The role is nominally 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday – with the occasional weekend and emergency works as overtime.
  • Hours to be arranged in consultation with the Deputy Estates Manager, with appropriate notice given.

 In return

  • Starting pay of Scale Point 22, £33,355.70  per annum.
  • 20 days annual leave per year, plus Bank Holidays.
  • Benefits include, subsidised meals during term time, onsite gym, free tickets to selected concerts & Cycle to Work Scheme.

Practice Administrator (Term Time only)

Chetham’s School of Music is seeking a Practice Administrator to join the internationally renowned specialist music school located in city centre Manchester. Chetham’s is home to the UK’s largest specialist music school, the oldest library in the English-speaking world, and a world-class concert venue all in the heart of Manchester.

The job

  • We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and supportive when working with young people (ages 8-18).
  • This is a permanent, zero-hours role; the anticipated hours for this year are 10–20 hours per week, during term time only.
  • Our building opens at 07:30 on weekdays and slightly later on weekends, closing at 22:00 daily. We’re looking for staff interested in fixed shift work, with occasional cover in addition.
  • Shifts available currently: Monday 14:30-20:30, 17:00-22:00; Thursday, Friday and Saturday 17:00-22:00.
  • The start date will be October 2026 (subject to checks).

 In return

  • Hourly rate: £14.33 per hour (subject to cost of living increase).
  • Benefits include subsided catered lunches during term-time, on site gym, free tickets to selected concerts & Cycle to Work Scheme.
