Big Big Train were originally formed by songwriter Gregory Spawton on the south coast of England in the early 1990s.
The band’s sixth album, 2009’s The Underfall Yard, featured vocalist David Longdon for the first time, and brought Big Big Train considerable critical acclaim and represented their belated commercial breakthrough.
Big Big Train’s steady upwards trajectory continued with the success of the albums English Electric Parts 1 & 2, Folklore, Grimspound, The Second Brightest Star, Grand Tour, Common Ground and Welcome To The Planet.
In late 2021, the band suffered the sudden tragic death of David Longdon and coupled with an enforced break due to COVID, Big Big Train took time to regroup.
Big Big Train successfully returned to the stage in autumn 2022 with new singer Alberto Bravin (formerly of Italian legends PFM) and performed both in the UK and Europe. One year on, Big Big Train undertook a 17 date European tour, performing across nine countries in 21 days, culminating with two triumphant shows at London’s prestigious Cadogan Hall. Big Big Train‘s first studio album with Alberto Bravin will be released in spring 2024 and will mark the band’s first release ontherenownedInsideOut/Sony label.
Alongside Spawton and Bravin, the band has an impressive list of musicians, including drummer Nick D’Virgilio and guitarist/keyboardist Rikard Sjöblom, whose combined experience includes playing with bands such as Genesis, PFM, Tears For Fears, Spock’s Beard and Beardfish, among others.
The band will be touring extensively in 2024 to support their new studio album and this will see Big Big Train reaching further afield with international headline shows and festivals.
