Winner of 6 BBC Folk Awards, he’s played with The Royal Shakespeare Company and was a key member of The Imagined Village along with Billy Bragg and Martin Carthy. A wise and soulful craftsman, his concerts are a cliche free zone.

I got into woodworking during the Covid lockdown. And it really hit the spot for me.

I mean there was The Madness of – of the lockdown and everything but there was also trying to stay sane in this kind of Market fundamentalist experiment that we’re all involved in. There’s something, something about songwriting is actually quite notional whereas woodwork is, it’s pretty exacting. It either fits or it doesn’t fit. It’s in twist or a sound twists. It’s flat or it’s not.

I kind of like that. I kind of like that. and I think it helps, helps the music.
