Our ‘Inside the Library’ sessions give visitors the opportunity to take an inside look at the workings of Chetham’s Library.

This Inside the Library session, we join Claire Batt with her research of Dr Dee’s family, with focus on his wife Jane.

Lady-in-waiting for Elizabeth I, married to John against her father’s wishes, Jane went on to give birth to 8 children and followed John on his travels across Europe in search of alchemical discoveries.

The fascinating tale of Jane Dee and her marriage to the weird and wonderful John Dee, ends in Manchester, with the arrival of the bubonic plague in the early 1600s.

Suitable for adults and young people aged 14+.

Please see our Visiting Information page for information about visiting Chetham’s Library and accessibility.
