The Chetham’s Vocal Department engages in a range of activities throughout the year, from choral and ensemble work to opera scenes and outreach projects. Tonight’s concert is an opportunity to hear our first study vocal students in various small consort formats.
This programme is built around two substantial and contrasting works. The upper voices will perform Gustav Holst’s Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda for Sopranos, Altos and Harp. These beautiful, ethereal songs are a world away from Benjamin Britten’s The Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard, a brilliant piece of story-telling for male voices and piano.
