We’re sorry that Timothy West is no longer able to join us for this performance. However, we’re delighted to welcome Robert Daws – who will be familiar to many of you for his roles on stage, in radio drama, and most recently as Dr Choake in the BBC’s Poldark – to play the part of Ebenezer Scrooge.
Should you need to get in touch, we’ll be extending our telephone Box Office hours today from 12-5.30pm on Friday 14 December, and from 3-7pm on Saturday 15 December.
Adapted for actors and orchestra by Neil Brand for its original broadcast on BBC Radio 4, this dark and atmospheric version of Dickens’ seasonal classic follows Ebenezer Scrooge as his past, present and future conspire to teach him the real spirit of Christmas.
Set against a thrilling orchestral underscore, A Christmas Carol features Timothy West – star of numerous acclaimed productions, including The Thirty Nine Steps and Cry Freedom – in the leading role of Ebenezer Scrooge. He is joined by outstanding regional performers from Chester Philharmonic Orchestra, Manchester Chamber Choir and Manchester School of Theatre in a truly collaborative Christmas classic which firmly belongs to Manchester.
Composer Neil Brand is celebrated for his adaptations of The Wind in the Willows, and for his acclaimed orchestral accompaniment for silent films including works by Alfred Hitchcock, Sergei Eisenstein and Anthony Asquith.
