Featuring: David Austin-Grey – Piano / Aaron Diaz – Trumpet / Johnny Hunter – Drums
UK-based pianist and composer David Austin-Grey concludes NQ Jazz’s series of ‘seminal sci-fi’ film nights at The Yard with an improvised score to the 1916 American silent film, ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’.
The film is based upon Jules Verne’s 1870 novel of the same name, also incorporating elements of his 1875 novel, ‘The Mysterious Island’. Described as being the ‘first motion picture filmed underwater’, it follows a US naval ship sent to investigate a ‘sea monster’, and the fate of its crew after the vessel is damaged by the monster. The film has been archived by the United States Library of Congress, who deem it to be “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
In partnership with NQ Jazz and The Yard. Made possible by Arts Council England’s Supporting Grassroots Live Music fund.
