Espíritu Flamenco will present an evening of traditional flamenco music, song and dance, with guitarist Jesús Guerrero in concert, joined by guest artists, dancer and choreographer Andrés Peña and singer David Carpio.

With a restless and artistically versatile spirit, Jesús Guerrero is one of the most talented and well-rounded guitarists on the current flamenco scene.  His beautiful melodies are decorated with precision, virtuosity and great musicality. His work is grounded in the flamenco tradition, while drawing on elements of jazz, south American and contemporary music.  He is at home with modern and traditional, as with solo performances and larger groups.  In April 2024, together with the renowned singer Miguel Poveda, he released the album ‘Poema del Cante Jondo’, in which he set to music the poem of that name by the poet Federico García Lorca. He was awarded the Fatiguillo Prize for accompanying guitar playing at the Seville Flamenco Biennial 2024.

Jesús Guerrero, flamenco guitarist and composer

Jesús Guerrero was born in 1985 in San Fernando (Cádiz). He began playing the guitar at the age of eleven under the guidance of the maestro José Luís Balao. His virtuosity with the instrument and his creative capacity have led him being invited to work with many great flamenco artists, such as Niña Pastori, Miguel Poveda and Argentina, among others, to collaborate in their recordings and live shows. He holds a degree in Teaching, specialising in Music Education from the University of Cadiz. He won the Flamenco Hoy Award 2014 for the best Accompanying Guitarist, awarded by national critics specialising in flamenco.

Jesús has also been the musical composer of numerous dance shows for artists such as Merche Esmeralda ‘Última parada’, Choro Molina ‘Aviso, Bayles de gitanos’, David Coria ‘Espiral’, Ana Morales ‘ReciclArte’ and ‘De sandalia a tacón’, Eduardo Guerrero ‘El callejón de los pecados’, Andrés Peña ‘A fuego lento’, ‘Órdago a la grande’ and ‘El aire que me lleva’, Joaquín Grilo ‘Belmonte’. He was also commissioned to compose the music for ‘Aquel Silverio…’ and ‘Flamencolorquiano’ by the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía during the period under the direction of Rafael Estévez.

Jesús collaborated in Carlos Saura’s last film ‘Flamenco Flamenco’ and has worked with many artists such as Eva la Yerbabuena, Rafael Campallo, Farruco, La Farruca, Pilar Ogalla, Matilde Coral, Nani Paños, el Londro, Rafael de Utrera, Rocío Márquez, Carmen Linares and Joan Albert Amargós. His passion for South American folk music has also led him to collaborate with the Mexican artist Lila Downs and Soledad Pastorutti, one of the greatest exponents of Argentine folk music. In 2016 he released ‘Calma’, his first solo album.

Andrés Peña – flamenco dancer

Andrés Peña brings his own personal style of flamenco music and dance. Rooted in the streets of Jerez and refined with the companies of Manuel Morao, La Chunga, Carmen Cortes, Juana Amaya and Eva Yerbabuena, his dance has won many prestigious awards and he has presented many critically acclaimed shows at international festivals during his long career as a soloist and choreographer.

Andrés Peña has toured worldwide both as a soloist and together with Pilar Ogalla and other artists, winning awards including ‘audience favourite’ twice at the international Festival de Jerez. Andrés began dancing at the age of 10 with Angelita Gomez, and soon joined professional companies including that of Carmen Cortés, with the show ‘Salomé’, then Eva Yerbabuena, for the shows ‘Eva’ and ‘5 mujeres 5’ (international tours as principal dancer). He was awarded the Jóvenes Intérpretes Flamencos prize at the Seville Biennial in 2000 and the Jerez Cup by the Cátedra de Flamencología de Jerez de la Frontera in 2005 which helped to launch his solo career.

Andrés premiered his first show, ‘Peña’, at the 2004 Festival de Jerez, followed by his second show together with the dancer Pilar Ogalla, ‘A Fuego Lento’ in 2006 which also toured major international festivals. In 2009, ‘Cadiz de la Frontera’ was born, also with the dancer Pilar Ogalla, and premiered at the Festival de Jerez, also staged at the Flamenco Arts Festival in Santa Barbara (USA) and at the X Festival of Spanish Music in Cádiz. In 2011 he created and premiered the solo show ‘Callejon de Asta’ in Jerez and performed it in several national theatres. In 2012, he presented ‘El Aire Que Me Lleva’ with Pilar Ogalla, which premiered at the Jerez Festival that year and was exported to several international festivals. In 2014, he created ‘Órdago a la Grande’ on his own, winning the Audience Award at the Jerez Festival. As with his other works, it was performed across the world. In 2016, in collaboration with Pilar Ogalla, they created ‘Sepia y Oro’ which was staged for the first time at the 20th Festival de Jerez and again won the Audience Award, earning critical praise for its staging and its recovery of the art of dance in its purest form. Their production ‘Flamenco Viene del Sur’ was presented in Sevilla, again achieving great success.  Andrés returned to the Jerez Festival as a solo artist in 2021 with ‘Campanas de Santiago’ and then as Co director and soloist with ‘Acuarela con Sal’ in 2025 with the Ballet Flamenco de Cadiz.

Andrés is an accomplished and highly respected flamenco artist, dancer, musician, choreographer and teacher. As well as being a well-established performer, Andrés is also a popular teacher at flamenco academies in Spain and worldwide. He is in his second year as co-director of the Ballet Flamenco of Cadiz, presenting ‘Acuarela con Sal’ at the Festival de Jerez 2025. El Mundo referred to the ‘wonder and brilliance’ of Andrés’ solo soleá as ‘an exhibition of virtuosity in each of its variations’. Vida Flamenca’s review says that ‘Andrés Peña has once again shown that he is at the top of Jerez dance, with a classic style full of expressiveness.’
