Open 10am-12pm and 1-3pm both days.

This event is part of Manchester Medieval Quarter Festival 2023.

How many cows does it take to make a manuscript? This family-friendly, interactive exhibition explores the embodied histories of medieval manuscripts, from the raw (and living!) materials – cows, goats and sheep – through to the finished artefacts. Whether you want to leaf through facsimile manuscripts, train your eye to identify parchment samples under the microscope, touch and handle medieval bookmaking supplies, weigh yourself against the record-breaking Codex Amiatinus, colour in manuscript illuminations, or explore our children’s book nook, there’s something for all ages – all while exploring larger questions around wealth, privilege and knowledge production both in medieval and modern-day England.
