In the orchestra’s debut at The Stoller Hall they will be performing a programme of well loved pieces.
Elgar’s contemplative cello concerto, composed just after the First World War, will be played by Clara Hope Simpson from the Royal Northern College of Music.
Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony was first performed in Moscow in 1878 and is sometimes nicknamed “fate”. It incorporates Russian folk themes running through the four movements.
The Coriolanus Overture was written for a tragedy and has been frequently recorded by the major orchestras.
