Manchester Proud Chorus (formerly Manchester Lesbian and Gay Chorus – MLGC) will be raising their voices to celebrate the energy, diversity and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community in the slightly delayed 20th Anniversary Concert.

Manchester Proud Chorus is a community a cappella choir, founded 22 years ago. The Chorus offers a safe place for members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies to share the joy of singing with others, rehearsing every week, regardless of musical experience or expertise. With an extensive repertoire to choose from, musical director, Dan McDwyer, has created a programme of songs that will move, entertain and surprise you. The Chorus is delighted to be joined by Jeff Borradaile and Loz Kaye, two previous MDs, who will each be bringing one of their choirs to join us.

“We sing not just for joy but also for equality, and safety, both in our community and beyond. In 2014, when two young men singing songs from the musical ‘Wicked’ on a Manchester tram were viciously attacked, we responded with the ‘Safe to Sing’ campaign. We joined with the folk of Manchester to celebrate the life of Victoria Wood, and were part of the Manchester Together commemorations following the Manchester Arena attack five years ago. We sing every year to mark World Aids Day.  Throughout the recent COVID times the Chorus continued to rehearse online and some of this material can be seen on our You Tube channel. As we began to emerge from the COVID restrictions the Chorus was invited to sing for Her Majesty the Queen, marking the 600th anniversary of the granting of Manchester Cathedral’s charter.

Cindylou Turner-Taylor, Co-Chair Manchester Proud Chorus.
