MILLGATE STREET

The Live Action Soap Opera

It’s 7:30pm and time for your Friday Night instalment of the unmissable Soap Opera Millgate Street, filled with all your favourite characters.

Ambitious young gangsters The Chetham Wreckers are causing chaos on Millgate Street. Marie, the Landlady of The Anvil, a pillar of the community, faces the final hours of her battle with cancer. Bullying remains rife at the local school. Friendships are challenged and choices must be made. But… love is also in the air on Millgate Street, and sometimes in the most surprising of places.

Eastenders and Macbeth. Coronation Street and Carmen. Emmerdale and The Marriage of Figaro. Each one has something in common… opera. They are full to the brim with big human emotions and stories like rollercoasters. Millgate Street is no different.

So, turn up the volume and let the opera begin.

ABOUT THE MUSIC

The performance will include arias from Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, Mozart’s ‘Marriage of Figaro’, Handel’s ‘Julius Caesar’ and opera choruses by Verdi, Ethel Smythe and Bernstein.

ABOUT CHETHAM’S OPERA

Our Opera and Stagecraft course began in September 2023, thanks to generous support, and provides students with an immersive insight into the most dramatic of artforms: Opera. Over the next two years, Chetham’s vocal students will have the opportunity to take part in workshops and classes exploring acting and vocal skills as well as visiting leading opera houses to learn all about staging opera performance. This will culminate in a performance of Revel’s L’enfant et les Sortilèges in the Summer of 2025.
