The City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra is one of the UK’s leading independent youth orchestras. The first of two summer concerts, the programme begins with Tchaikovsky’s ‘thunderingly dramatic and achingly beautiful’ Fantasy Overture to Romeo and Juliet.

Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony is an orchestral masterpiece that signalled his creative summit after the composer’s recovery period following the searing critical reviews of his First Symphony a decade before. Expect dark, melancholic themes, luscious melodies and a raucous finale.
