A line-up of fine wind players from the Manchester Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by internationally-acclaimed bassoonist Laurence Perkins for a performance of one of the most sublime pieces of music in the entire classical repertoire. Featured in the classic 1984 film Amadeus, Mozart’s magnificent Serenade in B flat K.361 (known as the ‘Gran Partita’) is a unique journey in expression, energy, sonority, and a huge range of musical colours created by this wonderful combination of wind instruments.

Laurence Perkins has performed and conducted this work on many occasions. As an ensemble player, he has performed the work on BBC Radio 3 in a live concert from Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. As a conductor he has directed many performances, including the Dartington International Music Festival during the Mozart anniversary in 2006. This masterpiece has a joie de vivre only to be found in a small number of great works – experience it for yourself.

This concert will be approximately one hour in duration, without an interval.
