7.30pm Recital by Chetham’s School of Music students

The opening recital in The Stoller Hall will showcase some of the outstanding piano pupils from Chethams School of Music, in a varied and exciting programme.

Alicja Kojder is fifteen years old started and started playing piano at the age of five, and at seven began studying in Chetham’s School of Music, where she currently studies with Helen Krizos. She has won top prizes in England, Italy, Spain, Macedonia, USA, Canada and Poland.

Daniel Liu, 18, has been attending Chetham’s School of Music since September 2013, where he studies piano with Dr Murray McLachlan, and composition with Ian Stephens. His performance of Britten’s Piano Concerto in The Stoller Hall, with accompanist Simon Passmore, led to him receiving a prize in the Chetham’s concerto competition of 2019. Together with others from Chethams’ community of pianists, Daniel has taken part in concerts that presented the complete works of Debussy and Ravel, and, with members of the string department, he has performed movements from Ravel’s piano trio. As a composer, he was a prize winner in the BBC Proms Inspire competition of 2019, which led to a commission by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Founded in 2001, the Chetham’s Piano Summer School is now firmly established as one of the most vibrant, respected and universally friendly events of its kind in the world. Participants enrol from all five continents and are inspired, guided and educated by an extraordinary faculty of over 60 internationally celebrated performer-teachers. This year promises to be no different and to enable access for audiences around the world, all major concerts will be available to watch online.
