Featuring: Cath Roberts – saxophone / Anton Hunter – guitar

Ripsaw Catfish, the collaborative duo of saxophonist Cath Roberts and guitarist Anton Hunter, perform an improvised soundtrack to ‘Aelita: Queen of Mars’ as part of NQ Jazz’s series of ‘seminal sci-fi’ film nights at The Yard.

Created in the Soviet Union and based upon Alexei Tolstoy’s 1923 novel of the same name, Aelita is described as ‘One of the earliest full-length films about space travel’. Directed by Yakov Protazanov and starring Nikolai Tseretelli and Valentina Kuindzhi in lead roles, it was released in 1924 and has been praised for its ‘remarkable’ set and costume design.
